Therapy

Udvartana

Vigorous upward massage with dry or paste herbal powders, the classical Ayurvedic treatment for excess Kapha and stubborn fat.

What it is

Medicated powders are applied with firm strokes worked against the direction of hair growth. Unlike oil massage, Udvartana is deliberately dry and stimulating rather than nourishing.

What it helps

Obesity and stubborn subcutaneous fat, heaviness, poor lymphatic drainage, dull or congested skin, cellulite, and the sluggish metabolism that accompanies Kapha-pattern weight gain.

What to expect

A firm, warming and occasionally abrasive treatment. Skin is left noticeably smoother. It is usually prescribed as a course alongside dietary correction, not on its own.
