Therapy

Abhyanga

Synchronised warm-oil massage along the body’s channels, the foundation of almost every Ayurvedic treatment plan.

What it is

Warm medicated oil, chosen for your constitution, is worked into the whole body with long strokes along the limbs and circular strokes over the joints. The oil is not incidental: it is the medicine, and the massage is the method of delivering it into the tissues.

What it helps

Vata disorders of every kind, dryness, stiffness, restlessness, poor sleep, anxiety and fatigue. It improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, softens stiff joints, and settles an overactive nervous system. It is also the standard preparation before any Panchakarma procedure.

What to expect

A warm, unhurried session on a wooden table, followed by a short rest and then steam or a warm shower. Oil is left on the skin for a period afterwards; wear clothes you don’t mind marking.
