Panchakarma

Nasya

Medicated oil or powder administered through the nostrils, the direct route to everything above the collarbone.

What it is

After local massage and fomentation of the face, head and neck, medicated oil or juice is instilled into each nostril in measured drops. Ayurveda considers the nose the doorway to the head.

What it helps

Chronic sinusitis, migraine and tension headache, cervical spondylosis, allergic rhinitis, hair fall, premature greying, loss of smell, and many conditions of the eyes, ears and voice.

What to expect

A short daily session of ten to fifteen minutes. There is a strong taste at the back of the throat and some clearing afterwards. Avoid cold air and a head bath immediately after.

Who should not have it

Not given during acute fever, immediately after food, or in pregnancy except under specific indication.
