Therapy

Patra Pind Swedana

Boluses of medicinal leaves fried in oil and pressed over the body, the mainstay fomentation for Vata-dominant pain.

What it is

Leaves such as castor, Nirgundi and Eranda are chopped, sautéed with oil and herbs, tied into boluses and applied warm in rhythmic strokes.

What it helps

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spondylosis, frozen shoulder, muscular pain and stiffness, and post-injury recovery. Particularly effective where pain is worse in cold weather.

What to expect

Warm, aromatic and firm. The leaves are prepared fresh for each session. A course of seven to fourteen days is standard.
