Therapy

Netra Tarpana

Warm medicated ghee held over the closed eye inside a ring of herbal dough, the classical Ayurvedic treatment for strained, dry and tired eyes.

What it is

A ring of dough is built around each eye and filled with lukewarm medicated ghee, usually Triphala ghrita. You open and close the eye gently within the ghee while it is retained for a set time.

What it helps

Digital eye strain, dry eye, chronic redness and burning, tired or heavy eyes, early refractive change, and headaches that originate behind the eyes. It is one of the few treatments that reaches the eye tissue directly.

What to expect

Vision is slightly blurred and light-sensitive for a short while afterwards, so arrange not to drive straight away. A course of three to seven days is usual.
