Therapy

Kati Basti

Warm medicated oil held in place over the lower back by a dough ring, sustained, localised oleation where a massage cannot reach.

What it is

A ring of herbal dough is built on the lower back and filled with warm medicated oil, which is kept at temperature for the length of the session. The oil sits directly over the lumbar structures for far longer than any massage allows.

What it helps

Chronic low back pain, lumbar spondylosis, disc prolapse, sciatica and muscular spasm. It is one of the most reliably effective treatments the clinic offers.

What to expect

You lie face down and still while oil is repeatedly topped up and re-warmed. A course of seven to fourteen days is normal; single sessions rarely hold.
