Anorectal care and surgery

Kshara Sutra and allied Ayurvedic treatment for anorectal conditions, a time-tested approach with low recurrence and no general anaesthesia.

A specialisation, not a sideline

Anorectal conditions are one of Dr. Megha’s principal areas of clinical work, carried out in association with Krishna Hospital. Piles (haemorrhoids), anal fissure and fistula-in-ano each need a different approach, and the first task is establishing which of them you actually have.

Kshara Sutra for fistula

Kshara Sutra is a medicated thread, prepared with herbal alkalis, that is threaded through the fistula tract. It cuts and simultaneously heals along its path as it is changed at intervals. The technique is recognised for high success rates and notably low recurrence compared with conventional fistulectomy, and it preserves sphincter function.

Piles and fissure

Early-grade piles and most fissures respond to a combination of herbal medication, Kshara application where indicated, correction of the digestive cause, and a diet and bowel routine designed to stop recurrence. Chronic fissure with a sentinel tag or advanced piles may need a procedure. You will be told clearly which category you fall into.

Why it keeps coming back

Most recurrence after any anorectal treatment is caused by what happens afterwards: constipation, straining, poor diet and prolonged sitting. A substantial part of the treatment is correcting these. Patients who follow the post-treatment routine rarely return with the same problem.

What to expect practically

Most patients continue working. Kshara Sutra requires weekly visits for thread changes over several weeks. There is discomfort rather than severe pain, managed with medication. You will be given specific diet and bowel instructions from day one.
